Sur la Wayback Machine d'archive.org, nombreuses pages de GC&YA et quelques-unes de DRALN. Les sites de Paul-Emic, Martin-Lothar et du bedeau figurent, eux aussi, à ce flatteur tableau de chasse.

If an unprovoked application for employment seems somewhat unusual in these days of system, agencies, & advertising, I trust that the circumstances surrounding this one may help to mitigate what would otherwise be obtrusive forwardness. The case is one wherein certain definitely marketable aptitudes must be put forward in an unconventional manner if they are to override the current fetish which demands commercial experience & causes prospective employers to dismiss unheard the application of any situation-seeker unable to boast of specific professional service in a given line.
The notion that not even a man of cultivation & good intelligence can possibly acquire rapid effectiveness in a field ever so slightly outside his own routine, would seem to be a naive one ; yet recent events have shown me most emphatically what a widespread superstition it is. Since commencing, two months ago, a quest for work for which I am naturally & scholastically well fitted, I have answered nearly a hundred advertisements without so much as one chance for a satisfactory hearing -- & all, apparently, because I cannot point to previous employment in the precise industrial subdivisions represented by the various firms. Faring thus with the usual channels, I am at last experimentally taking the aggressive.
The situation of which I am in search, & which I believe your establishment might afford, is one where the services of an author, reviser, rewriter, critic, reviewer, correspondent, proofreader, typist, or anything else even remotely of the sort, are required. In these lines I am prepared to display a mature and effective proficiency despite the fact that I have never been systematically employed by another ; yet am willing, in deference to custom & necessity, to begin most modestly, & with the small remuneration which novices usually receive. What I wish is an initial foothold ; after that I am confident that my work will speak for me.
I am by vocation a writer & reviser -- composing original fiction, criticism, & verse, & have had exceptionally thorough experience in preparing correct & fluent text on subjects assigned, or meeting the most difficult & intricate problems of rewriting & constructive revision, prose & verse. For over seven years I have handled nearly all the writing of a very prominent American author, editor, & lecturer ; including several books & many poems which have subsequently achieved no little popularity in traversing the rounds of the press. I have also edited & revised books for others, & can if desired submit samples of this as well as of less extensive work -- published stories, reviews, association organs which I have edited, & the like.
This free-lance industry, however, is obviously uneven & uncertain ; & I am now -- being married & settled in New York -- extremely desirous of exchanging it for a regular & permanent salaried connection with any responsible enterprise of not too dissimilar nature. That I can adequately fill any ordinary position involving English composition & rhetoric, literary creativeness, & familiarity with typographical forms & practices, seems very clear to me. Experience in the details of any one commercial enterprise I may lack, but I nevertheless believe that I have assets of at least equal value in an ability to compose rapidly, vividly, fluently, & correctly from outlines, notes, or suggestions, & in such qualities as quick & discriminating perception, orthographical accuracy, stylistic fastidiousness & a keenly developed sense of the niceties of English usage. As regards these qualities, I am willing to take any sort of practical examination such as composing continuous text from hints or synopses submitted, or reading proof under your supervision, with reference to speed & freedom from errors.
I am thirty-four years of age, & of cultivated native ancestry. My education, while not including the university or a professional translator's knowledge of modern languages, is that of a gentleman, & embodies all the essentials of liberal culture, literary technique, disciplined observation, & balanced conservatism. With this equipment -- ordinary as it is -- I cannot doubt but that I am capable of filling some position offered by such organisations as yours, even though lack of earlier employment form a fictitious barrier. Rounds pegs find round holes, square pegs find square holes. And by the same token, albeit with rather greater difficulty, I am sure that there must be somewhere a corresponding hole for such a peg as proverbial metaphor may dub trapezohedral !

@Pharamond : Moi, je l'engageais immédiatement, comme j'aurais immédiatement engagé l'individu me soumettant un plan pratique pour exterminer, avec l'approbation générale, les chômeurs -- ou d'autres catégories peu appréciées par le régime. ;-)

@Pharamond : Parmi les factions, nombreuses celles qui rêvent à l'extermination, plus ou moins discrète, de leurs ennemis. A titre personnel, je n'irais pas déplorer la disparition des [1], des [2], des [3] et sans doute des [4], voire des [5] et même des [6] -- et j'en omets, de ces parasites ou nuisibles.

un service appelé "Waze" aurait brièvement signalé, en plus de la position des radars routiers, celle des domiciles de quelques milichiens. Etrangement, les auteurs de cette facétie informatique n'ont pas eu l'idée de signaler aussi d'autres amis du régime -- juges, journalopes et intellectuels.
La volonté de transparence trouve vite ses limites ; on se demande bien pourquoi.
